Book an Appointment

At United Medical Clinic (UMC), our obstetrician-gynecologists see women at our clinics in Lisbon (Saldanha) and Porto (Trindade), in person and online. A consultation costs €120. If needed, the doctor performs a pelvic ultrasound during the same visit for €90. We offer check-ups and cervical screening, treatment of gynecological conditions, contraception, and pregnancy care for the full term. No referral is needed, and we work with all Portuguese and international insurance providers.

We know that a gynecological visit calls for sensitivity. That is why we provide disposable gowns and socks, warm ultrasound gel, and a private setting for every examination.

When to See a Gynecologist

  • irregular, painful, or very heavy periods;
  • pelvic pain or discomfort;
  • itching, burning, redness, or swelling in the genital area;
  • unusual discharge or an unpleasant odor;
  • pain when urinating or recurrent cystitis;
  • planning a pregnancy or a positive pregnancy test;
  • choosing or changing contraception;
  • symptoms of perimenopause or menopause.

Even without symptoms, a yearly check-up with cervical screening is recommended. It is also worth seeing a gynecologist after unprotected sex, a change of partner, or if a partner has been diagnosed with an infection.

Conditions We Treat

  • menstrual disorders, including absent periods, and premenstrual syndrome;
  • polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and ovarian cysts;
  • uterine fibroids, endometriosis, and endometrial hyperplasia;
  • HPV infection, cervical dysplasia, and cervical ectropion;
  • thrush, bacterial vaginosis, and sexually transmitted infections;
  • endometritis and pelvic inflammatory disease;
  • recurrent cystitis;
  • pelvic organ prolapse;
  • perimenopause and menopause.

What We Do During the Visit

  • gynecological examination and treatment plan;
  • pelvic ultrasound, performed by the gynecologist during the consultation when needed;
  • Pap test with HPV testing for cervical cancer screening;
  • testing for sexually transmitted infections and other lab tests, with samples taken at the clinic;
  • cervical biopsy and removal of cervical polyps;
  • IUD insertion and removal of contraceptive implants;
  • prescriptions and medical reports.

If you need surgery, such as hysteroscopy or laparoscopy, Dr. Filipa Passos performs it at a partner clinic in Lisbon. At UMC, we provide outpatient care only.

Contraception

The gynecologist helps you choose a method that suits your health and plans, including an intrauterine device (IUD). IUD insertion costs €100, or €170 with Carevix. The price of the IUD itself is not included. Removal of a contraceptive implant without complications is included in the consultation fee.

IUD insertion with Carevix. During a standard insertion, the doctor holds the cervix steady with forceps called a tenaculum, and this is often the most uncomfortable part of the procedure. Carevix holds the cervix with gentle suction instead, without gripping it. As a result, insertion is usually less painful and causes less bleeding. Carevix is a sterile, single-use device. If you feel anxious about the procedure or a previous insertion was painful, tell the doctor, and they will suggest the option with Carevix.

Pregnancy Care

Our gynecologists follow your pregnancy for the full term, from the first visit to delivery. This includes regular check-ups, ultrasound scans, blood tests, and all the documents you need for the maternity hospital in Portugal:

  • the pregnancy health record (Boletim de Saúde da Grávida), with your test and scan results;
  • a medical report on the course of your pregnancy for the maternity hospital;
  • a pregnancy certificate for your employer.

During pregnancy, you can also have blood tests at our clinic and see our general practitioners and, in Lisbon, our ophthalmologist. We also give vaccines recommended during pregnancy, including the flu vaccine.

We do not perform fetal screening scans at 11–14, 20–22, and 30–32 weeks. For these, the doctor gives you a referral to a partner clinic for €55. Non-invasive prenatal testing is also available: learn more about NIPT at UMC.

HPV Vaccination

We vaccinate against HPV with Gardasil 9, which protects against the HPV types that most often cause cervical cancer and genital warts. One dose costs €175. People aged 9 to 14 need two doses, and from age 15, three doses. More about vaccination at UMC.

Breast Health

In Lisbon, breast specialist Dr. Lídia Reis sees patients, and breast ultrasound is available in Lisbon and Porto for €110. More about breast health at UMC.
