English-Speaking GP in Lisbon & Porto | UMC

United Medical Clinic brings together general practitioners (GPs), family physicians, pediatricians, and internal medicine physicians. Our team provides care for acute illnesses, ongoing management of chronic conditions, preventive care, and coordination with other specialists when needed.

Doctors see patients daily in both Lisbon and Porto, with same-day appointments and no referral required. Choose your city, the patient's age, and an available time in our online booking system. We welcome local residents, expats, and travelers, with insurance or paying out of pocket.

Care in English, From Booking to Follow-Up

All our doctors and clinic staff speak English. You can explain your symptoms, discuss previous treatment, and ask questions about your care without a language barrier. Russian-speaking patients can also receive free interpretation from a medical coordinator.

Choosing a Doctor for an Adult or Child

  • General practitioners: provide adult care; some also see children, including newborns.
  • Family physicians: at UMC, they see both adults and children and can provide ongoing care for the family.
  • Pediatricians: see children only.
  • Internal medicine physicians: provide adult care, including assessment of patients with several coexisting medical conditions.

Use the age filter when booking to find a doctor who sees patients in the appropriate age group. Our administrative team can help if you are unsure which appointment to select.

Reasons to See a GP or Family Doctor

  • Acute symptoms: fever, cough, a runny nose, sore throat, or other respiratory symptoms.
  • Digestive concerns: abdominal pain, heartburn, nausea, diarrhea, or constipation.
  • Urinary symptoms: painful or frequent urination.
  • Skin concerns: a rash, itching, or other skin changes.
  • Pain or feeling unwell: headaches, dizziness, fatigue, or muscle and joint pain.
  • Sleep or emotional health concerns: an initial assessment, recommendations, and referral when appropriate.
  • Children's health: acute illnesses, growth and development concerns, and preventive care with a doctor who sees the child's age group.
  • Continuing care after a move: reviewing previous treatment, medical records, and follow-up needs.
  • Prevention: health assessments, vaccination, review of risk factors, and recommendations for screening.

You do not need an established diagnosis or a specialist in mind. A primary care appointment can help clarify the problem and identify the right next steps.

Conditions We Manage

Depending on the patient's age and the doctor's clinical scope, our team provides assessment and management of:

  • respiratory infections and other common infections;
  • urinary tract infections;
  • high blood pressure and lipid disorders;
  • diabetes and thyroid conditions;
  • asthma and allergic conditions;
  • common digestive disorders;
  • headaches and other conditions requiring follow-up.

Your doctor recommends treatment, reviews your progress, and involves an appropriate specialist when needed. For patients with several conditions, the doctor can help coordinate recommendations and ongoing care.

What Is Included in a €95 Consultation?

A full consultation includes a medical history, clinical assessment, and a care plan. During an in-person appointment, your doctor performs the measurements and examination appropriate to the reason for your visit:

  • Medical and family history: your symptoms, previous illnesses, family health history, medications, and available test results.
  • Body measurements and vital signs: height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, oxygen saturation, and other relevant measurements as needed.
  • Physical examination: including palpation and listening to the heart and lungs when indicated.
  • Diagnosis or a working diagnosis when further testing is needed.
  • Treatment and follow-up recommendations: including appropriate prescriptions, referrals, and medical certificates based on the assessment.

Ultrasound, ECG, other diagnostic tests, procedures, laboratory testing, and vaccination are billed separately. The examination is tailored to the patient's symptoms, age, and clinical needs.

Three Ways to See a Doctor

In-Person Clinic Appointments

Appointments are available every day in Lisbon and Porto. You can also have laboratory samples collected and receive vaccinations at the clinic, including on the day of your visit. Check any test preparation requirements and the availability of the vaccine you need when booking.

Online Consultations

During a video consultation, the doctor reviews your symptoms and available medical information, makes a diagnosis when there is sufficient evidence, and recommends treatment. Online visits can also be used to review test results and adjust your follow-up plan.

If hands-on examination is necessary—for example, palpation or listening to the heart and lungs—the doctor will recommend a clinic appointment or house call. Whether a particular document can be issued remotely depends on the assessment it requires.

Home, Hotel, and Office Visits

In Lisbon and Porto, you can request a visit from a GP, family physician, pediatrician, or internal medicine physician. The doctor is selected according to the patient's age and reason for the visit.

Visits start at €150. Our team will confirm the timing and the final price based on your address.

Focused Appointments for €55

A shorter appointment is available for:

  • reviewing completed laboratory tests and discussing the results with a doctor;
  • medical documentation, such as a daycare or school certificate or a certificate for a Portuguese driver's license exchange or renewal, when a full consultation is not needed.

Issuing a medical certificate still requires the appropriate medical assessment. If the request needs a more extensive evaluation, the doctor will explain which appointment is suitable.

Care Within a Multispecialty Clinic

Your GP or family physician considers your overall health, recommends testing, and plans the next steps. When additional expertise is needed, you can be referred to colleagues within UMC, according to the specialties available in your chosen city.

This helps support ongoing care, management of several conditions, and continuity after relocating. Bring any existing medical records and a medication list so your doctor can review your treatment history.

Fees and Insurance

  • Full consultation: €95.
  • Focused appointment for laboratory results or medical documentation: €55.
  • Home, hotel, or office visit: from €150.

Both clinics welcome insured and self-pay patients. Coverage, out-of-pocket costs, and payment arrangements depend on your plan. Confirm the details with our administrative team before your visit.
