Biographical summary

Ana Cunha — Gynaecologist & Obstetrician in Porto

In-person consultations in Porto · for patients aged 18 and over · English, Portuguese

Dr. Ana Cunha is a gynaecologist and obstetrician with nearly four decades of clinical practice. She provides gynaecological consultations, pregnancy follow-up, pelvic ultrasound, and care during menopause. Gynaecological lab tests and smears can also be collected during the visit.

She is a highly experienced and attentive physician — patients consistently note her calm, kind manner, which matters especially in gynaecology and pregnancy care, where many concerns are tied to anxiety and uncertainty.

About the Doctor

Dr. Cunha has held a specialist title in Gynaecology and Obstetrics since 1996, a subspecialty in Maternal-Fetal Medicine since 2006, and Consultant grade — the highest level of the hospital medical career path in Portugal. Since 2007, she has also worked at the Centro Materno-Infantil do Norte (Porto), a major maternal and child health centre.

A distinctive and fairly rare area of expertise: since 2003, Dr. Cunha has provided gynaecological and obstetric care to women with hereditary metabolic disorders. If you have such a diagnosis and questions about pregnancy planning or gynaecological health, this is a doctor who understands the broader context of these conditions.

At UMC, Dr. Cunha provides gynaecological consultations, pregnancy follow-up, and pelvic ultrasound. Formal pregnancy screening ultrasounds (1st–3rd trimester, fetal morphology) are not performed at UMC — if needed, she will refer you to a partner facility.

Education and Experience

Dr. Cunha graduated from the University of Porto in 1987 (Licenciatura em Medicina). In 1996, she obtained her specialist title in Gynaecology and Obstetrics. In 2005, she was awarded Consultant grade (Consultor da Carreira Médica Hospitalar). In 2006, she completed her subspecialty in Maternal-Fetal Medicine.

Since 2007, she has been a Consultant Hospital Assistant in Gynaecology and Obstetrics at the Centro Materno-Infantil do Norte.

Member of professional societies: the Portuguese Society of Obstetrics and Maternal-Fetal Medicine, the Portuguese Society of Gynaecology, and the Portuguese Association for Prenatal Diagnosis.

Registered with the Portuguese Medical Association (Ordem dos Médicos), license No. 31860.
