Oncology and Breast Health

Seeing a Breast Specialist is recommended for all women aged 18 and over

At UMC, we provide a comprehensive approach to the diagnosis and treatment of breast diseases. Our doctors are focused on helping you stay healthy and confident.

Why is it important to get diagnosed early?

Breast cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer in women. However, with early detection and timely treatment, the chances of a complete recovery increase significantly. That is why regular check-ups and screenings are so important.

What services do we provide?

  • Consultation with a Breast Specialist: Our qualified specialists will perform a thorough breast examination and palpation, take a medical history, and assess your risk factors for breast disease.
  • Mammary ultrasound: We provide breast ultrasound with professional equipment. Ultrasound can detect various neoplasms and changes in breast tissue.
  • Mammography referral: according to Portuguese health guidelines, it is recommended that women over the age of 35 have a mammogram. Our doctor will make the medical referral for the mammography at one of our partner clinics.
  • Integrated approach: If any changes in the breast are detected, we will assist you in all stages of diagnosis and treatment.

How does a Breast Specialist consult?

At the doctor's appointment:

  • The doctor will do a physical examination and a medical history.
  • Provides visual inspection and palpation of the breast and axillary lymph nodes.
  • Assesses risk factors for breast disease.
  • Additional tests (ultrasound, mammography, biopsy, etc.) may be prescribed.
  • Creates an individualized prevention and treatment plan.

Who should have a breast exam?

All women over the age of 18 should consult a Breast Specialist, especially:

  • If you have any complaints of pain, lumpiness, or discharge from your nipples or breasts.
  • In the presence of risk factors for breast disease (heredity, early onset of menstruation, late onset of menopause, absence of pregnancy and childbirth, hormonal disorders).
  • For preventive screening purposes.
