Dr. Yuriy Mazin is a physician specializing in physical medicine and rehabilitation (PM&R) and sports medicine. He treats the full musculoskeletal system: joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and spine. He performs diagnostic musculoskeletal ultrasound and ultrasound-guided injections himself, during the same visit — so you don't need to travel elsewhere for imaging or for the procedure itself.

Dr. Mazin grew up in Portugal in a Russian-speaking family and is fluent in English, Portuguese, and Russian. He is fully integrated into the Portuguese medical system, which means he can manage your care in your own language without losing connection to local protocols and specialist networks.

About the Doctor

Dr. Mazin represents a new generation of musculoskeletal physicians, combining careful clinical examination with modern ultrasound-guided diagnostics and interventional techniques. He continues to train internationally in musculoskeletal ultrasound, attends conferences on rehabilitation and sports traumatology, and publishes in peer-reviewed journals — including as first author of a systematic review on extracorporeal shock wave therapy in the treatment of muscle injuries.

His communication style is calm and clear: he explains what the ultrasound shows, walks you through your treatment options, and sets realistic expectations for each stage of recovery. His approach is active rather than purely symptomatic — the goal is to return you to the life you want, whether that means competitive sport, a physically demanding job, hiking, or simply walking without pain.

Alongside his clinical practice, Dr. Mazin has spent several years as team physician for Portuguese football clubs, giving him hands-on experience with acute injuries, rehabilitation, and return-to-sport protocols.

Education and Training

Dr. Mazin completed his medical degree at the Instituto de Ciências Biomédicas Abel Salazar, University of Porto (Integrated Master's in Medicine, 2014–2020). He completed a postgraduate specialization in Sports Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Porto, and is currently completing his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation at the North Rehabilitation Center (Centro de Reabilitação do Norte), ULS Gaia e Espinho.

He holds the international certification Experto en Ecografía para Rehabilitación (ECOSERMEF, Universidad CEU San Pablo, Madrid) and has completed advanced training in ultrasound assessment of muscle injuries. He is currently pursuing further training in interventional pain medicine through APED (Portuguese Association for the Study of Pain).
