Biographical summary

Manuel Godinho — English-speaking Orthopaedic Surgeon in Porto, Hip Specialist for Children and Adults

In-person consultations in Porto · online consultations from Porto, Lisbon, and across Europe · English, Portuguese, German, Spanish

Dr. Manuel Godinho is an orthopaedic surgeon and traumatologist specializing in the hip joint: hip arthrosis and impingement, hip dysplasia, avascular necrosis of the femoral head, hip instability and injuries, fractures of the femoral neck and pelvis, as well as hip arthroplasty (replacement), revision arthroplasty, and joint-preserving hip surgery.

He is a highly promising and dedicated young specialist — his orthopaedics and traumatology specialist degree was awarded with one of the highest final grades on record (19.73 out of 20). At the same time, he already has substantial hands-on experience: 2,608 surgical procedures during his residency, 992 of them as primary surgeon, plus fellowships at leading hip surgery centres in Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

About the Doctor

Dr. Godinho completed his residency in Orthopaedics and Traumatology at ULS Entre Douro e Vouga (2020–2025) — one of the most surgically intensive training programmes in the country, judging by the volume of procedures performed. Beyond the hip, he has substantial surgical experience in the knee, wrist and hand, lower leg and ankle, foot, shoulder, spine, and elbow — making him an orthopaedic surgeon with a broad general foundation and a focused hip subspecialty.

Alongside his residency, he completed international surgical fellowships in hip surgery: at OCM Klinik (Munich, Germany) — hip-preserving surgery and sports-related hip pathology under Prof. Michael Dienst; at University College London Hospitals (UK) — hip surgery in the Young Adult Hip Unit under Mr Johan Witt; and at Denver Health Medical Center (USA) — pelvic and acetabular trauma under Dr. Cyril Mauffrey. Earlier, in 2016, he completed an orthopaedic placement at Spitalzentrum Biel (Switzerland).

He is academically active — author and co-author of 14 scientific papers, 40 oral presentations, and 19 posters at national and international orthopaedics and traumatology congresses, with a particular focus on hip surgery, arthroplasty, trauma, and digital health.

In addition to adult orthopaedics, Dr. Godinho also has experience in paediatric orthopaedics and trauma, including in newborns.
