Biographical summary

In-person consultations in Porto · home visits · online consultations from Lisbon and across Europe · Russian, Portuguese, basic English

Dr. Kostyantyn Agapov is a general practitioner who treats patients of all ages, from newborns to seniors. He's the doctor to see first: he examines you, assesses your condition, makes a diagnosis or working hypothesis, orders the necessary tests, manages your treatment — and when a specialist is needed, he refers you to the right colleague within the clinic and helps you navigate the Portuguese healthcare system.

Russian is Dr. Agapov's native language. He trained and worked in a Russian-speaking medical environment for more than a decade, which means consultations in Russian are completely natural — you can describe what's going on in your own words, without translating medical terms.

About the Doctor

Dr. Agapov is a physician with thirty years of clinical experience and an unusually broad background for a family doctor: a Ukrainian residency in dermatology, ten years of practice as a hospital dermatologist, relocation to Portugal, and full completion of every Portuguese qualification step — the General Year Internship (Internato do Ano Comum), residency in Public Health, and specialized training in Occupational Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto.

This dual background gives him two qualities patients value. First, he can confidently assess both skin concerns — rashes, acne, eczema, fungal infections, moles, hair loss — and general medical complaints in the same visit. Second, he understands the Portuguese healthcare system from the inside: its protocols, referral pathways, and insurance logistics — and he discusses all of this with his Russian-speaking patients in their native language.

Since 2014, he has also worked in the home-visit emergency medical service in Porto. This means he is comfortable making decisions in non-clinic settings, assessing patients in their own homes, and managing acute situations without the full equipment of a hospital — the same experience he brings to UMC home visits.

Education and Training

Dr. Agapov graduated from the Dnipropetrovsk State Medical Institute (Ukraine) in 1992 with a degree in general medicine. From 1992 to 1994, he completed residency training in dermatology at the same institution. He then worked as a hospital dermatologist at Regional Hospital No. 6 in Dnipropetrovsk from 1994 to 2002.

After relocating to Portugal, he completed every qualification step required for medical practice: the official communication assessment at the North Regional Section of the Portuguese Medical Association (Ordem dos Médicos) in 2011; the General Year Internship at ULS Nordeste, Bragança/Mirandela in 2012; residency training in Public Health at ACeS Póvoa de Varzim/Vila do Conde from 2013 to 2017; and a specialization course in Public Health at the National School of Public Health (Universidade Nova de Lisboa).

In 2019, he completed a two-year specialization course in Occupational Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Porto. Since 2015, he has been practicing in occupational health — conducting pre-employment, periodic, and on-demand medical examinations for companies, and assessing workplace risk factors.

Registered with the Portuguese Medical Association (Ordem dos Médicos), license No. 53518.
