Iryna Mykolyshyn — Family Doctor, General Practitioner in Porto

In-person consultations in Porto · home visits across Porto and the surrounding area · online consultations from Porto, Lisbon, and across Europe · children from birth and adults · Russian, Ukrainian, Portuguese, basic English

Dr. Iryna Mykolyshyn is a family doctor who treats patients of all ages, from newborns to seniors. She's the doctor to see first: she examines you, assesses your condition, makes a diagnosis or working hypothesis, orders the necessary tests, manages your treatment — and when a specialist is needed, she refers you to the right colleague within the clinic and helps you navigate the Portuguese healthcare system.

Russian and Ukrainian are Dr. Mykolyshyn's native languages. She trained in medicine in Ukraine and speaks both fluently and naturally — you can describe what's going on in your own words, without translating medical terms or searching for the right phrasing.

About the Doctor

Dr. Mykolyshyn is a physician with more than twenty-five years of experience in medicine, ten of them as a board-certified family medicine specialist (Especialista em Medicina Geral e Familiar) in Portugal. Over this time, she has worked across a wide range of settings: public family health centres, private general practice clinics, occupational medicine across several companies, and — during the pandemic — as part of a team providing care to COVID-19 patients.

This broad background translates into practical benefits at the appointment: Dr. Mykolyshyn is equally confident managing routine consultations, acute presentations, and patients with multiple chronic conditions at once. She regularly completes continuing education courses — in geriatrics, rheumatology, diabetes, urological pathology, and COPD — to keep her knowledge current.

Education and Experience

Dr. Mykolyshyn trained in medicine in Ukraine: a nursing degree (1990–1993), a medical degree from the I. Horbachevsky Ternopil State Medical Academy (1993–1999), and an internship in general medicine (1999–2000).

In Portugal, she completed a professional integration programme for immigrant doctors (Coimbra, supported by the Jesuit Refugee Service, 2009–2010), which included rotations in internal medicine, surgery and orthopaedics, obstetrics and gynaecology, and paediatrics, as well as a medical communication examination in Portuguese (Ordem dos Médicos).

In 2011, she completed the General Year Internship (Internato do Ano Comum) at Hospital Sousa Martins (Guarda). From 2012 to 2016, she completed her residency in Family Medicine (UCSP Tábua, then USF Ramalde, Porto). Since 2016, she has been a board-certified Specialist in Family Medicine (Especialista em Medicina Geral e Familiar).

From 2015 to 2017, she completed postgraduate training in Occupational Medicine (Medicina do Trabalho) in Porto.

Since 2012, she has worked as a general practitioner at the Higisaude clinic (Porto). In parallel, she practises occupational medicine at several clinics in Porto and Fafe. From 2020 to 2022, she was part of a family medicine team providing care to COVID-19 patients (ARS Norte, ACES Gondomar).

Registered with the Portuguese Medical Association (Ordem dos Médicos), license No. 52141.
