What to Expect During Your Appointment

Dr. Pushina reviews your symptoms, menstrual and reproductive history, general medical history, previous reports, and test results. Depending on the reason for the visit, she performs an appropriate gynecologic examination and develops a diagnostic, treatment, or preventive care plan.

When clinically indicated, a pelvic ultrasound, specimen collection for laboratory testing, HPV vaccination, or another outpatient gynecologic procedure may be completed during the same visit.

Pelvic Ultrasound During the Visit

Dr. Pushina performs gynecologic ultrasound, including transvaginal pelvic ultrasound. This examination evaluates the uterus, endometrium, ovaries, and other pelvic structures and may be used for pelvic pain, abnormal bleeding, possible fibroids, endometriosis, ovarian cysts, or other conditions.

Ultrasound is a separate diagnostic service and is billed in addition to the consultation. The physician determines the appropriate examination based on the patient’s symptoms and clinical circumstances.

Laboratory Testing and Preventive Screening

Specimens may be collected during the gynecologic visit for:

  • liquid-based cervical cytology;
  • human papillomavirus, or HPV, testing;
  • sexually transmitted infection testing;
  • other swabs or laboratory studies when clinically indicated.

Specimen collection and laboratory testing are separate services. Fees depend on the ordered panel and are not automatically included in the consultation.

HPV Vaccination

UMC offers vaccination against human papillomavirus with Gardasil 9. Before vaccination, the doctor reviews the patient’s medical history, contraindications, and individual schedule. The vaccine may be administered during the visit when it is available and there are no contraindications.

The consultation and vaccination are separate services; the vaccine and its administration are billed separately. Please confirm vaccine availability and current pricing when booking.

Contraception, Intrauterine Devices, and Implants

Dr. Pushina helps patients choose an appropriate contraceptive method based on age, health, reproductive plans, and individual risk factors. Available in-clinic services include:

  • insertion or removal of an intrauterine device, or IUD;
  • insertion or removal of a contraceptive implant;
  • ultrasound assessment of IUD position;
  • review and adjustment of previously prescribed hormonal contraception.

The contraceptive device, insertion or removal procedure, and any required ultrasound are separate services. Same-day scheduling, preparation, and device availability should be confirmed in advance.

Pregnancy Planning and Prenatal Care

Dr. Pushina provides preconception counseling, evaluates relevant risk factors, develops an appropriate testing plan, and provides prenatal care throughout pregnancy. Her experience includes complicated and high-risk pregnancies.

During prenatal care, she monitors maternal health, orders necessary tests and imaging, prepares medical documentation and referrals, and helps the patient navigate the Portuguese healthcare system.

Planning for Delivery

Dr. Pushina helps the patient select an appropriate delivery setting based on the course of pregnancy, place of residence, insurance coverage, and personal preferences. She prepares relevant reports and referrals and explains when and where to seek care when labor begins or warning symptoms develop.

Deliveries are not performed at UMC. Prenatal care at the clinic is combined with referral to an appropriate public or private maternity hospital.

Ultrasound During Pregnancy

Dr. Pushina’s professional background includes gynecologic and obstetric ultrasound, Doppler studies, and preeclampsia risk assessment. However, fetal screening ultrasounds are not performed at UMC. Patients are referred to an appropriate diagnostic center or maternity hospital for fetal screening and other specialized obstetric imaging.

Pediatric and Adolescent Gynecology

Dr. Pushina sees girls from birth through adolescence. Reasons for evaluation may include inflammation, itching or discharge, pain, menstrual problems after menarche, or other gynecologic symptoms.

The examination is adapted to the child’s age and limited to what is clinically necessary. Parent or legal guardian participation depends on the patient’s age and applicable medical consent rules.

Menopause and Endocrine Gynecology

Patients may seek care for hot flashes, sleep problems, mood changes, vaginal dryness, menstrual changes, and other perimenopause or menopause symptoms. Dr. Pushina evaluates symptoms and individual risk factors and discusses appropriate treatment options.

Gynecologic Surgery

Dr. Pushina’s professional interests include gynecologic and minimally invasive surgery. UMC provides consultations, examination, ultrasound, and the outpatient procedures listed by the clinic. If surgery or hospital-based evaluation is needed, the doctor assesses the indication and helps coordinate care at an appropriately equipped facility.
