No. You can book a psychiatric consultation directly. The specialist will assess your condition and help determine the most appropriate type of support, whether psychotherapy, medication, or a combination of both.
Can I see a specialist if I am experiencing severe stress, anxiety or sleep problems?
Yes. You do not need to have a confirmed diagnosis to seek help. Persistent anxiety, panic attacks, burnout, sleep problems, low energy or difficulties with concentration can all be reasons to arrange a consultation.
Can my child or teenager receive psychiatric or psychotherapeutic support?
Yes. UMC provides psychiatric and psychotherapeutic support for children and teenagers. Reasons for seeking help may include concentration difficulties, hyperactivity, anxiety, problems at school, sleep disturbances, behavioural changes or self-harm.
What happens during the first psychiatric consultation?
During the first consultation, the doctor will ask about your symptoms, how long they have been present and how they affect your daily life. After the assessment, the specialist will explain the possible treatment options and, if necessary, develop an individual treatment plan.
Does seeing a psychiatrist always mean that I need to take medication?
No. Medication is not necessary for every patient. Depending on your condition, the specialist may recommend psychotherapy, medication, or a combination of both.
Can I see a psychiatrist if I am experiencing difficulties related to immigration?

Yes. Consultations are available both in person at the clinic and online. You can choose the format that is most convenient for you when booking your appointment.
What languages are consultations available in?
Consultations are available in English and Portuguese. Russian-speaking and other international patients can also receive free assistance from a medical coordinator with translation during their visit.
Can I see a psychiatrist if I am already taking psychiatric medication and want to review my treatment?
Yes. A psychiatrist can assess your current condition and treatment and, if necessary, adjust your further treatment plan. All prescriptions are provided in accordance with EU standards and international recommendations.
